I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Elopements and micro-weddings are my favorite types of weddings. Whenever I am legitimately able to talk to every person at a wedding, I know it’s going to be a great day. Jess and Izzy’s elopement in the Catskills allowed me to have a lovely drive up through PA, listen to a few podcasts, and hang with them and their crew for a few hours. I’d shoot weddings like this every time if I could.
The location of their ceremony, Ashokan Reservior, was wonderful as well. We had a mile and a half walk down a gravel path with the whole crew before finding a quaint waterside spot for the ceremony.
Unfortunately, the water level was a bit higher than expected, so I rolled up my pants and waded into the water a bit to get a unique perspective of the couple and their guests. I love having opportunities like this to go the extra mile.
After the ceremony was over, we went through all of the family groupings we could think of and then Izzy, Jess and I took our time to walk back to the cars and did some fun portraits along the way. Everyone went to their favorite local restaurant from there to celebrate. I snagged a few more shots there before grabbing some Indian food in town and hopping back into my car for the ride home.
There are times when I like having weddings super close to home, but I also love to travel from time to time!
