If you're on this page, it means you recently scheduled a wedding photography consultation with Nathan Desch Photography. I am incredibly excited to meet with you to talk more about your specific plans and hear all about what is important to you. Every couple we work with is different and has unique needs- My goal is to truly listen to what matters most to you and determine whether or not we're a good fit for your special day.

In the sections below, I am going to go over some ways you can prepare for our call so that you get as much value from it as possible, and it points you in the right direction. By the end of the call, I want you to be able to say, "I really think Nathan Desch Photography is the right fit for us", or "I don't think this a good fit, and I think we should move in a different direction."

As much as I'd love to work with every couple who reaches out to us, I care more about making sure it's a great fit across the board for both of us. My commitment to you is that if at any time, I determine we aren't a good fit, I'll absolutely let you know- Sound good?

Let's dive in!

How to Prepare for your wedding photography consultation

Wedding planning can be a chore, but when you know what questions to ask, you give yourself a major edge.

Custom Experience

We all know the children's story of Goldilocks and The Three Bears. Goldilocks lucked out that she was able to find the solutions that were "Just Right" for her when only three options were presented, but in life, it's not always that simple.

Many photographers have three or four "packages" or "collections" to pick from. They normally offer increasing time coverage for your day as well as each package including more products and services you may be interested in.

We do it differently. We custom build your wedding photography coverage so that you get exactly what you're looking for without needing to worry about investing in something that simply isn't important to you.

Aside from our elopement coverage, all packages start with entire day coverage with one photographer. From here, you have total control over things like engagement pictures, videography coverage, albums, wall art, a content creator, welcome party coverage, a second shooter, and much more.

Take time to think about the services and products you actually want prior to our call

No, you don't need to lock it in ahead of time, but if you have a good idea of what you want vs what you don't care about, it will be much easier for us to build you a package that makes sense for you.

Oh, one more thing- Because we custom build packages for each couple, we don't need to add everything before you book. You can add products and services at a later point. In fact, this is what most couples do unless they know it all up front.

Why we don't do cookie-cutter

Albums...

Most of our couples get an album after their wedding, as it is the most iconic way to relive your day as often as you'd like. Click the link below for more info on our pricing page

The Best way to remember your day

Your images were designed to be printed for this very purpose. We offer a number of ways to display your photographs: museum-quality heirloom albums, parent books, wall art and prints of all sizes. Just get in touch to know more.

Not sure how to display your photos? There are lots of choices and it can feel overwhelming trying to choose what’s best for your home. Whether you add physical products to your custom package now or wait until after the wedding, we'll be here to guide you every step of the way!

And all of the other options

How to fill your home with beautiful memories

I've been doing this for over 17 years and in that time, I've learned that the best way I can serve you is with honestly, transparency, and compassion.
I am not going to tell you that you need something you don't or trick you into buying a product or service that isn't important to you.
Wedding planning can be hard enough as it is- That's why I'm committing to you to be here for you every step of the way.

I'm not going to twist your arm, force your hand, or trick you into doing something you'll later regret

Nathan’s Promise

kind words

Nathan was wonderful to work with. He truly is a master of his craft. He listened to what we wanted and added his own touches. Our pictures all turned out beautifully. Nathan is extremely organized and always willing to help. He makes himself available whenever you need him and is super responsive and attentive! When I was stressed over creating family portrait lists, he had a beautifully laid out form that made it so easy- I did not have to go through the work of listing special pictures I wanted taken. He’s a professional and knows exactly what to do. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Nathan and the second shooter he brought to our wedding. Highly recommend using Nathan Desch photography for all of your wedding and engagement session needs!

Questions I'll ask you on our call

Tell me a little about the two of you-
Ok, well not really a question, but it's incredibly helpful for me to get to know you better. Where did you meet? How long have you been together? What are your hobbies and interests? What do you do for work? All of these things help me better get to know you so that when we work together, I'm not just some random who knows nothing about you.

How do you want to remember your wedding day in 20 years?
Most of our couples want some sort of physical prints to enjoy on a regular basis. For many, this means an heirloom album or wall art, but if you're not quite sure how to answer this, that is okay too.

Do you have a rough timeline in place?
Most of our couples book with us 9-18 months out from their wedding and oftentimes, we're one of the first vendors they book after they lock in their venue. For this reason, the timeline is likely very up in the air. We can work with you to build a perfect timelines that will lead to minimal stress!

What are the top priorities for your wedding?
Some people want to have an epic party with as many people present as possible, while others want a more low-key affair. I have shot weddings with 400+ people and others where it was just the couple. I love them all, but knowing what your goals are helps me in many different ways!

How much do you actually value Photography?
Be honest here- If you're just hiring a photographer because you feel you're supposed to, okay, but if remembering your day in beautiful images is a seriously high priority for you, I want to know this. We love working with couples who truly value what we bring to the table with our experience, skill, approach and guidance.

Who are the most important people?
Sure, we'll be getting a ton of pictures of the two of you, but the full group of people at your wedding will likely never be together again and we want to capture them in a way that you will cherish for a lifetime. Think about these people and why they matter to you!

It kind of seems silly to even ask, but here goes-
Have you looked at our work?
From time to time, I get on a call with a couple and they heard about us from a friend or their venue, and without checking out our work, they scheduled a time to connect.
As we talk, it quickly becomes apparent that they haven't really explored our work to make sure that what we do is what they're looking for.
You see, we've built a reputation over the years because of the consistency of our work and the style we have. It's one of the main reasons our couples are drawn to our work. But if you're looking for a light and airy style or want trendy filters, etc, we're probably not a great fit. There isn't anything wrong with those styles, but it's not how we capture and edit images, and it's not as simple.
So, before our call, take some time to explore our work and picture the two of you in our images!

frequently asked Consult questions

How long have you been shooting weddings?
We have been shooting weddings since 2007 and have hundreds of them under our belt. We’ve worked at a huge range of venues, in different seasons and managed all types of weather. We’re bullet-proof.

Can I give you a list of shots that I want on my wedding day?
You can. However, we've found that it is best to just share images with us that are non-standard, or ones we wouldn't have known about had you not told us. Don't worry, we'll be sure to capture family pictures, your first kiss, and all of the "normal" stuff. We can talk more about this on our call.

Do you bring back-up equipment to every shoot?
We do. We have extra batteries, memory cards, lenses, and cameras. We're never going to risk being unprepared for your day.

Do you travel?
We love to travel and experience new places. If your wedding is within 80 miles (round trip) of our studio, there are no extra fees. If it is further away, we'd be happy to give you a custom quote to cover nominal travel expenses.

Are the images we see edited?
All of the final images we post (usually between 850-1250) are color-corrected, cropped, and ready for printing. If you like the work you see on our website, you'll love your own images!

Please shoot our wedding! How do we book you?
Visit our contact page and send us a message with your wedding details. If we’re available, we will walk you through the next steps.
